Researchers from Seoul National University (Korea) conducted an experiment to investigate the factors influencing the accuracy of lung cancer diagnoses when radiologists are assisted by AI. Previous studies have shown that AI can enhance radiologists’ ability to detect malignant lung nodules on chest X-rays, but the specific components contributing to radiologists’ decisions remained unclear. The findings of this study underscore the potential of high-accuracy AI in facilitating earlier lung cancer diagnoses.

The researchers gathered a group of 30 readers, 20 with 5−18 years of experience and 10 with as little as 2−3 years. The team asked the clinicians to make a diagnosis on 120 chest radiographs.
